This looks like it should be a scene from a movie.

Another technique that I find useful for finding inspiration is taking your favourite parts from different pieces of art and playing around with them a bit. For instance, with this piece I created a mix between Mark Crilley's Drawing Time Lapse: Explosion and Draw with Jazza's BROKEN ASSASSIN: Character Design Challenge!. And it's got to be one of my favourites!

The Week.

So I'm afraid so say that my weekend has been busier than I thought so for the rest of this week every day I'll upload the after picture from yesterday using different types media. Hopefully this work!

This is my first one that I'm working on for tomorrow-

Saturday 2 July 2016

Before.

Hey Guys!

Welcome to the weekend I hope your having a great one so far!

There is one thing you may not know about me and that is as well as drawing I also love baking!

So earlier in the week I decided to make what is probably one of my favourite cakes....... Belgian Buns!

You may be thinking, this is a drawing blog not a baking blog isn't it? Well, you'd be right so to in order to make this about drawing, tomorrow I'll hopefully be uploading an after picture using different types of media (all things going smoothly). And hey, baking's a type of art, I think...

Just a quick note from me saying that there won't be a post tomorrow because I've got a dance exam rehearsal and after that I'm going away to stay with my nan for the week.

Drawing Tutorial: How to Draw Manga Style Heads

Hey Guys!

Today I'm going to be explaining to you (what I think is) an easy and simple way to draw manga style heads. But before we start, just a quick disclaimer: If this system looks the same as some other artists demonstrate, that's probably because it is! It's also the way that I learned do it and it massively helped me, so hopefully it'll help you all too. And I've done this so often now that I no longer need to use this, but if your a beginner this'll help - trust me.

In this picture I've done three different heads to show you how to draw male, female and children's heads. Let's get started!

What you'll need:

1x Piece of normal paper (anything will do just as long as it's not to thin)
1x HB pencil (I use Staedtler)
1x Ruler (this one's kneadable, but any normal one will do)
1x Eraser (again mine's Staedtler)
1x Glass or compass (to make a circle)
1x Pen (for inking - a Faber Castel sizes S and F)

So first draw a circle using either a compass or a glass.

Next draw a line down the centre of the circle splitting it down the middle.

Now it's time to add the jawline. First make a little line below the circle to mark the bottom of the jaw line; for a childs head the mark should be 1/3rd of the length of the original circle, for a females head the mark should be 1/2 of the length and finally for a males head the mark should be 2/3rds of the length of the circle.

To draw the jawline itself your going to need to draw curved lines on each side of the circle leading to the line you just drew. For a male's head (far left) bring a line down from each side of the circle tilting inward slightly and then join them together with a diagonal line. For a females head the jawline is softer so just do the same as you would've done with the males just less defined and the same for a child's.

Also if you want you can also add a neck to your head as well. Children's necks are quite small compared to the head. A females neck is elegant and curves in slightly before curving out again. A males neck is quite stout and thick.

To finish of the piece I've added some hair (which I'll hopefully be doing a tutorial on soon!).

And finally I inked in everything, going over the pencil first with my S pen and then I went over some of the lines again with my slightly thicker F pen for effect and erased out the pencil.

Anyway, I hope you guys all found this tutorial helpful and/or useful. I hope is was detailed enough - I'm still new to this writing thing, so I'm still learning!

See you next week!

My Birthday Haul!

Hey Guys!

So it was my birthday not to long ago and I got some money to spend in Hobbycraft (which is basically the main art shop where I live) and so I decided to go and spend all my money and I'll show you what I brought, I'll also throw in a picture of my new headphones as well as they are art related...(sort of)

     - Faber Castel PITT black artists pens -
So I've been looking for some decent pens, for inking in my pictures, for a while now. I saw one of these pens randomly mixed in with some other pens on the shelf and I liked the feel of it so when my mum spotted a packet of these in different sizes I brought them. They are really good quality and they're brill! I'll have to upload a picture that I've done with them some time!

- Woodless Graphite pencils -
I love these!!! Graphite pencils where one of the main things that made me fall in love with art (although I only had one, it's so tiny now, it's impossible to draw with) I've been looking for these for literally years! (I didn't know what they were at the time) Graphite pencils are kind of like normal pencils but they are lovely and sooth and you can smudge them as well.

- Portable Water pot for watercolours and other paint -
(not sure what this is called)
The other day I was watching some of Baylee Jay's videos the other day and I saw that she has this cool foldable pot for holding water and I thought it was so cool and although this one is plastic it still works the same!

- Derwent Kneadable Eraser -
It's a rubber. It feels like putty. And it rubs out pencil, charcoal and pastel.

- Sweets -
They are tasty what else can I say! Apart from the fact that they are a brill kick of energy while your drawing!

- Tinchy Strider Headphones -
For listening to awesome songs while I'm drawing!(On-ear ones are painful after a while)

I hope you guys all liked this post and have had a brilliant weekend!

Inspiration.

Hey Guys!

Today I'm going to give you guys some ideas of where you can find inspiration. For this I'll bullet point the inspiration and then explain it a little.

  • Music
Just read this post - Harmony (it's easier)

  • TV
Do you have a favourite TV series or film? Yeah? Well why don't you try basing some of your art on some of the characters!

  • Books
Just like TV you can draw the characters in your favourite books. Also you can try recreating some scenes from your books.
  • Everything around you!
The world around you is beautiful, why not capture it!?

There are so many different things you can get inspiration from in everyday life you just have to look for it!

Well, that's it for this weekend hope you all liked this post!

It's Summer!!! (kind of)

Hey Guys!

So the other day I was thinking about what I could draw to upload, and then I thought! Why not show you guys one of my favourite pastimes.... clothes designing! So I started to do 3 different, colourful items of clothing as it's nearly summer. But unfortunately I didn't have time so here is the first one and I'll upload the second and third next week, hopefully. Hope you like it!

Sunday 24 April 2016

Hi

Hey Guys!

I'm sorry I am afraid there won't be any art related posts this weekend as I'm going to be performing in a dance show and I've had rehearsals all weekend.

As for next weekend, which is the weekend of the show, I'll try and prepare something this week to put up. Wish me luck with my make-up today! I may be an artist but I'm not the best with eye-liner!

Harmony

Hey Guys!

Today I'm going to be talking about how to use music to inspire your artistic skill and what music I enjoy listening to while drawing.

So I Googled listening to music while drawing to see other peoples thoughts the subject, and you know what I found? I found a couple of posts on forums claiming that listening to music while drawing is bad. I mean, I know it could distract you from your drawing, but more often than not it'll help inspire you (or at least that's what I've found).

The most important thing about the music that you listen to while drawing is the lyrics or if you don't have any in your song think about what that piece reminds you of. Like, there are a few songs that connect perfectly to some books that I've read, so if I decide to draw some fan fiction I'll play that song.

In my opinion it doesn't matter what kind of music you listen to while you draw just as long as you enjoy it. My own personal preference for music goes anything from Taylor Swift and Charlie Puth to Little Mix, Coldplay and One Republic to rock groups, Green Day and Fall out Boy.

I think that's all I can really say on the subject so um, hope you all find this post helpful.

Digital.

Hey Guys!

I'm afraid this won't be a long post as I haven't actually drawn anything this week *inhales sharply*. I know, I know, but it's been a busy week. So I dug though some old pictures and found this lion that I drew a couple of weeks after I got my Wacom Intuos.

That's kind of it really for now. I'll have a more interesting post about music tomorrow.

"There is more that one kind of art"

Hey Guys!

Hope you're all having a great weekend!

Today I'm going to be talking about the fact that there is more to art than just drawing or painting something. There is also fashion, design, baking, music and, most importantly, for this post photography.

I mean, what is more beautiful than mother nature? Why shouldn't we capture that beauty and, like I've done the with these first photos, enhance that beauty. Or if you want, leave your picture as Mother Nature intended it as with the third picture.

Candyland.

                                                                Looks natural, but is it?

                                                                  Completely natural.

And if you don't have a camera, just start with your phone or tablet and just play about with your picture. Have fun with it!

Sketch of the week: Go Wild!!!

Hey Guys!

You know when you sit down to draw something and you put your pencil on the page and pause and think, "what shall I draw......hmmmm......Oh what about! No........ehhh......I don't know!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" My advice is just start drawing random shapes. Trust me, it'll work and if it doesn't, just colour in the shapes at least it will look nice!

And if anyone asks you, "Why on earth are you drawing that?!" Just reply, "Why not?"

Tips.

Hey Guys!

Today I'll be giving you a few tips on how to improve your drawings (if you are a beginner).
I'm just going to bullet point a few tips and explain why.

  • Hold your pencils like it's a brush
- Hold it lightly, don't press to hard, it makes your picture look nicer. Also it helps when sketching because it makes it easier to rub it out.

  • Draw your line in the air before you actually draw it
- Mime drawing the line you want to draw before you draw it (helps to create a smoother line).

  • Using the right equipment
- You don't have to go all out and buy really expensive equipment, but don't just buy the cheapest of the cheap.

  • Find what's right for you
- (FULLSTOP!)

  • Practice, Practice, Practice
 - I know, I know we all hate listening to this, but it's true.

Hope you all find these tips useful!

REVIEW: Copic Ciao

Hey Guys!

Today I have something slightly different for you. As you can probably tell from the title this is a review on the Copic Ciao Markers. I have meaning to buy some of these for a while and last week went to Hobbycraft and bought these. Yay! So lets get right to it!

As is quite common with a lot of markers they are double ended - I've taken a picture of them to show you.

I also have drawn some eyes to show you what they look like when you draw with them!

And here is an example of the different widths and ways that you can use them!

The thick end is quite hard and can cover larger areas while the thin end is amazingly soft; it's like using a really soft paint brush! My rating is 9 1/2 out of 10 I'm definitely going to buy more.

I hope you all like this review. I don't think it is too bad for a first attempt.
